The White House announced a new initiative to get more people in the United States vaccinated. Under this new effort, the Bidge Administration has partnered with Uber and Lyft to offer free walks to the appointments of vaccination. The initiative is part of a broader series of new measures to obtain 70% of American adults vaccinated with at least one shot by July 4th.
As part of the new program, any adult in the United States can have free driving at their local vaccination site using Uber or Lyft. The two route-sharing companies will promote the new opportunity in their respective applications, allowing users to choose a nearby vaccination site and redeem a free trip to the destination.
Companies will begin to offer these free rides as part of the program within two weeks, according to the White House, and they will remain available until July 4th. The idea is that many people can have limited transport options and giving them a free wrinkle, more people can choose to get vaccinated otherwise expected longer.
In addition to free walks, the Biden Administration also announces new partnerships between pharmacies and community colleges with high schooling numbers that will result in on-site vaccination clinics. The local community, as well as students and staff, will be able to obtain the Covid-19 vaccine on colleges.
Beyond this, FEMA’s aid funding is now available for local, state and tribal governments for community and “engagement” awareness of the vaccination effort. These efforts can include items such as telephone and text initiatives that alert communities when vaccines are available, helping companies vaccinate their employees with items such as contextual clinics, etc.
