When access to a popular resource disappears suddenly, people are likely to look for an alternative source, no matter where it comes. This is true for websites, but even more for software and applications that can have unfortunate consequences. This could be the case of MSI’s popular post-combustive tool that is suddenly unavailable without much warning and, at least briefly, imitated by an almost convincing fraudulent site that could have causes involuntary users to download malware downloading .
The Afterburner tool of MSI is quite popular at PCs and game enthusiasts who want to make the most of their platforms. It offers both system monitoring as well as GPU overclocking tools that do not discriminate against NVIDIA and AMD rivals. Given its popularity, it is really not surprising that people go looking for an alternative download source when the official MSI server has suddenly stopped working.
Unfortunately, such a source not only tried to offer a copy of MSI Afterburner, she also tried to hide as MSI himself. As with efforts designed to hide the true identity of the owner, any download from this fake MSI website should be suspicious. That’s exactly what the MSI warning is all about, but it could have become too little too late to cancel certain damages.
The real problem is that MSI itself has only used such an announcement to warn the users of this situation. In the meantime, its official post-combustion page has no warning and always has a non-functional download button. Without any clear explanation or alternative, users naturally try to search for other sources.
Fortunately, it seems that the fraudulent site has been retained from the Commission. MSI also says that the post-combustion would be downloaded again after routine maintenance. Unfortunately, it does not also offer an alternative download link that could have saved time and problems from the beginning.
