Anne was born in Hanover, Germany on April 23, 1919. He emigrated to Belgium with his family when he was a teenager. After Belgium, he moved to Switzerland where he began his education, and after that, he settled in Paris.

He created the foundation of “research for women’s cancer”, which helped finance research facilities at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Anne was also involved in building a playground in many areas of Los Angeles, with her husband Kirk Douglas. And he also founded “Harry’s Haven” which is an Alzheimer’s unit at home pictures and television funds at Woodland Hills.

Buydens met Kirk Douglas when he was filming ‘livelihood’ in Paris, a film where he played Vincent Van Gogh. Both have very attractive platonic relationships, which eventually become romantic. They both got married on May 29, 1954. Only a year after their marriage Anne gave birth to their first son, Peter Vincent Douglas, on November 23, 1955. An interesting fact was that the middle name of their first son was a reference for the film Kirk was filming when he met Anne. A few years later, on June 21, 1958, they had their second son, Eric Anthony Douglas. Unfortunately, their second son was elevated tragically, due to overdose in 2004. Anne was converted to Judaism, and he became an American citizen in 1959.
Anne and Kirk remained together for the rest of Kirk’s life, and they married for more than 60 years.
