Netflix Original Zombie Movie Army of the Dead will be available to monitor Cinemark’s theaters from next week, giving viewers the opportunity to watch the feature film on the big screen. Although some netflix films have made appearances in the theaters in the past, these have been limited. The army of the dead launch in Cinemark will be the largest theatrical release of Netflix, which potentially score a modification of how the company manages the Blockbuster titles.
While many companies have started experimenting with digital cinema releases at the same time as they take the first in theaters, Netflix takes the opposite approach. The company has historically only its content available on its streaming service, the only exception being limited theatrical races to qualify it for rewards.
Netflix’s decision to lead the army of the dead in hundreds of theaters of Cinark before arriving on the streaming service is not quite surprising. The company has indicated several years ago that it could explore this type of first hybrid, although the cinemas are firmly opposed to the idea at the time.
However, the pandemic has changed many things in the industry and that restrictions come off in the United States, many people are eager to return to the cinema and other places that had been largely closed during the last year. From tomorrow, more than 600 film theaters across the United States will go through the Army of the Dead before hitting the dissemination platform of May 21.
If the theatrical race will be a shot for Netflix remains to be seen. The first will only come after the CDC reassured the public that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks inside, who may have many people could go to their local theater for the first times more than a year. However, Netflix has announced only the theatrical race scheduled earlier this month, which means many people probably ignore that it will even be an option.
